ACADEMICS: Children’s Ministry

Purpose
The Children’s Ministry Associates program is based upon an education model with a focus that permits the student completing this course work to hold a basic biblical understanding of ministry to children and gain a basic understanding of teaching and ministry methods for leading ministries that focus on the children of the congregation as well as their parents through education, discipleship, and relationship building ministry to children and parents.

Program Outcomes

Students completing the Associate of Bible Degree are expected to:

1. Demonstrate their understanding of the organization and origins of the written Word of God as a context for translation.
2. Build the foundation and processes to think critically regarding decisions and the use of data.
3. Compare worldviews and make a decision regarding personal worldview to guide life.
4. Possess the ability to communicate personally and in a group with an understanding of people and community, relationships, and governance.
5. Understand the development of humanity through history, literature, fine arts, and philosophy.

Children’s Ministry Students will exemplify the following understanding and skills:

1. Gain an understanding of the biblical need and model for ministry to children and families and develop a philosophy of ministry for spiritual development in children.
2. Understand and model effective teaching to children and adults.
3. Develop leadership skills and techniques to administrate ministry programs for children and families within the local church.

The Children’s Ministry program is based upon an education model that permits the student completing this course work to hold recognition of the need for biblical understanding as well as an educator charged with the responsibility to teach and lead a ministry that focuses on the children of the congregation as well as their parents through education, discipleship, and relationship building ministry to children and parents.

Program Outcomes

Students completing the Bachelor of Biblical Studies Degree are expected to:

1. Demonstrate their understanding of the organization and origins of the written Word of God as a context for translation.
2. Build a foundational theological framework as a basis to defend the core beliefs of the American Baptist Association and to detect false doctrines.
3. Build the foundation and processes to think critically regarding decisions and the use of data.
4. Possess the ability to communicate personally and in a group with an understanding of people and community, relationships, and governance.
5. Understand the development of humanity through history, literature, fine arts, and philosophy.
6. Minister to people, through local church and the foreign field.
7. Lead a biblical worship service.
8. Lead in the development of a congregation that exemplifies spiritual and emotional formation

Children’s Ministry Emphasis will exemplify the following understanding and skills:

9. Lead in the development of ministries within the local church that focus on the spiritual health and development of children.
10. Employ the understanding of the basis for effective education ministries focused on children to lead, evaluate effectiveness, identify areas of strength and weakness, and build corrective actions to address the programs’ educational effectiveness.
11. Understand and model effective teaching to children and adults, and to structure and manage a program to educate adults to teach.
12. Formulate the desired education program for the organization, systematically assess the effectiveness of the program, and structure corrective measures to improve determined weaknesses.
13. Design systems to utilize effective ministry resources for planning and program development for the purpose of increasing program outcomes and to address obstacles of the ministry.
